  • Items for Induction
    • The Chapter wants to purchase a steamer for the banner, to be used at Induction. This purchase would be around $40.
    • The Chapter also wants to replace one table cloth that ended up getting ruined from the drycleaners. This purchase would cost around $150.
  • Project updates
    • The College Project is coming along nicely, there is going to be two days of presentations/workshops in the Green Room. There is also going to be one day for tabling from 11am- 3pm.
      • We want to get advertisement out about this event, thought of using a trifold to be placed in the lunch area.
    • Honors in Action is starting to take its first steps out of the research stage, and start planning some events to be held in the Green Room.
      • The Honors in Action team broke out into a small group after the meeting was over with to look at common threads in the articles researched on.
  • Highway Clean-up is coming up, dates to follow.
  • Student Senate Representatives
    • Christy, Elena and Derrik have been attending the Student Senate Meetings for the Chapter.
  • Congratulated Jon Wood and Amanda Lilgreen on becoming 2015 Faculty Scholars for Honors Institute.
  • Started looking forward to the 2015 International Conference.
    • The Chapter wanted to start looking at what the costs of attending this Conference would be person etc. and Letter of Intent will start to be completed by people wanting to go to this event.
  • A survey will be sent out to members helping to decide when a good time to have meetings will be.
  • Leadership Event
    • Derrik will be putting on a Leadership Event on Tuesday, November 25th from 1:30pm to 3pm in FA292.

Phi Theta Kappa Minutes Meeting October 28th, 2014

  • Roll Call
  • Officer Reports
    • Nestor: He suggested giving him a little bit more notice when it comes to filling out forms/requests.
    • Elena : Nothing new to report. Asked for more clarification on what is happening with the College Project!
    • Nicolette: She talked about having Emily’s House come in and possibly use them for our Honors in Action Project. She also suggested having a meeting time for each of the projects so we can start moving forward with them.
  • College Project
    • There is going to be some tabling opportunities available during the week of November 17th – 19th. Stay tuned for more details!
  • Honors in Action
    • The chapter discussed having a meeting time next week to look at all of the summaries that have been done and try to find a common tread and figure out what direction we want this project to go in.
  • Induction reflection
  • The chapter discussed how the Fall Induction went. Discussed maybe doing ½ cookies, ½ cake, talking to Stan in the music department and seeing what kind of singers we can get for the Spring Induction.
    • Bob Iwan, a Biology Professor, thought that the Induction was a good one!
  • Next Semester meeting times
    • The chapter discussed possible meeting times for next semester! One possible option that will be discussed is having our meetings on Mondays @ 2 p.m. in CC117
  • Member thoughts/inputs
    • Nestor was wondering if there are ways that we can have more tabling opportunities.
    • Vicky brought up the idea that we should consider doing a video “promoting” PTK
  • Housekeeping items
    • Since one of our banners got damaged at the dry-cleaners, the chapter wants to look into purchasing a steamer/cleaner, also looking at what it would cost to just replace the banner instead.
    • Possibly getting a stand for our banners to hang from and look at what that would cost.
  • Charting the Future
    • Elena brought up what this is all about and how students can get involved and make a difference!
    • This event is taking place on Thursday, November 13th from 1p.m. to 4p.m.! See you there!

  • Regional Update
  • Taking a look at the program for Induction
    • The program looked good! The printing is going start soon, any changes done by Friday.
  • Other Induction things
    • Nicolette is going to make the certificates over break, she will also be reading the bios for the speakers
    • Nestor agreed to reading the names of the Inductees
    • Danielle is going to be signing the school song as we walk into Induction
    • Duties were given out to the officers to be completed before/during induction.
    • Thursday is the last day to sign up for registration for this event.
  • Five Star Status
    • The Chapter went through the layout of each star and crossed off what we have already completed, and planned on completed other things on that list.
  • College Project Update
    • Jackson emailed Judy and discussed when the next meeting with Tim would be. The two options are October 28th at either 9 or 11 am, or October 30th at 4pm.
    • Student Senate was thrilled with the ideas of this college project
    • Talked about having 3 “projects”/workshops including, importance of clubs, having a student budget, and preparing for transferring. These workshops would be taking place during club week, and there will also be tabling available.
  • October 24th is College and Career Day
  • Looking at the Honors in Action Focus
    • Discussed what the focus of the Honors in Action Project is going to be, and how we can condense the articles that have been read to meet this focus.

  • Concerns that there aren’t enough members from IHCC
  • Discusses how the Fall Conference went … Ebony would like to come back for the Spring Conference, signs and accessibility was a little bit tricky.
  • Sociology Conference
  • Christy, Nestor, and Jackson are available for tabling during this event.
  • Induction
  • This was a large part of our meeting this week.
  • Invites are going to be sent to Inductees and Golden Apple Winners.
  • Certificates are going to need to be made.
  • Nestor is going to be ordering the flowers, cookies, cake, and drinks.
  • After the welcome from Tim, Richard is going to be honored à gavel/powerpoint
  • Vicky is going to be offering volunteer opportunities to help with induction since we are low on helpers!
  • Vicky is going to dry clean the banners for the table
  • Bios are needed for the Induction speakers
  • Possibly having a musical entrance à Choir?
  • Possibly having an introduction for the officers.
  • Duties are going to be divided up soon, so that everyone knows what they are going to be doing!

  • Regional Update
    • The Devil’s Lake Conference could have gone better, technology wasn’t the greatest.
  • Conference Day of Duties Reminders
    • A sheet was passed around for people to fill in duties for the day of the Fall Conference.
  • College Project Update
    • Jackson is almost done with an email that will be sent out asking clubs if they want to help with this project. Some clubs will be asked in person.
  • Recap of Student Success Day
    • Went good. Christy posted information about the keynote speaker on D2L.
  • Induction
    • The Chapter voted on having Tom Reis as the speaker at the Fall Induction. An email has been sent out asking him if he can make it. Nestor motioned for this vote, Nicolette second it.
    • Considered sent out physical invites to people, instead of doing an electronic version.
  • Some new business discussed rather quickly
    • Sociology Conference is October 9th & 10th.
    • The Chapter voted on keeping the Adopt a Highway going. Nestor motioned for this vote and Christy seconded it.
    • The Chapter discussed having a president update with Tim, possibly having him come to one of the meetings.
    • The Chapter wants to start looking towards completing goals for the Five Star Status.
  • The first half of the meeting was designated in the library to focus on obtaining information on how we can find articles relating to our Honors in Action Topic.

  • Updates
    • Dates for the upcoming College Project-Club Week- are to be determined by the end of the week.
    • There is going to be a Skype meeting with the Regional team, Tuesday, September 16th, at 3:30 in CC117.
  • Member Recruiting
    • Vicky and Richard are offering extra credit to their students for completing a summary that reflects our Honors in Action topic. This will increase our number of summaries to choose from when we write our Hallmarks.
    • Another way that it has been decided to get more members is to just talk to people in the classes that you are taking!
    • There is also discussion on making a YouTube video that will “promote”/”inform” people about PTK and why they should join!
  • Website
    • Debra will be updating the website with current information and anything fun and exciting!
  • Advertisement for Honors in Action Research
    • Christy will be doing the advertisement for getting people to help write some summaries!
  • College & Career Day – Friday, October 24th
    • Students from Rosemount are coming to IHCC to gain more information/benefits of a two year college.
    • There will be a PTK table. If you anyone wants to help out, don’t hesitate!
  • Skype Meeting with Regional Team at ~3:30 p.m.
    • We talked about many different topics/events that will be happening in the near future!
    • Going to the Devil’s Lake Conference is up in the air.
    • Prepared and straighten out any issues for the Fall Conference coming up. We went over the food, who is going to be presenting and when, and finalized any other lose ends!

Phi Theta Kappa Minute Meeting September 9th, 2014

Meeting Time: 3:08 p.m.- 4:06 p.m. in CC 117

  • Call to Order (3:08 p.m.)
  • Roll Call
  • Regional Update
    • The Region is looking to put up an alumni table up. If you have any ideas, throw them out there! They are also prepping for a Regional slideshow that would play at Conferences, possibly while people register etc.
    • An idea that was thought of was doing what is called “100 ideas in 100 seconds”. This would showcase ideas from other chapter on how they have been successful, which could help those chapters struggling.
    • Since there is no continental breakfast at the hotel for the Fall Conference, we will be providing a breakfast on Saturday morning. We looked at ordering assorted fruit bowls, assorted muffins, and getting some whole fruit like apples and bananas.
    • There is going to be a Skype meeting with the Regional team, Tuesday, September 16th, at 3:30 in CC117.
    • It was decided that the haunted house is going to be a fellowship activity. This will take place on October 3rd from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. More details/specifics to follow!
  • A letter was sent to Tim Wynes and Christina Royal about attending the Fall Conference. There will also be another meeting with Tim Wynes about the College Project.
  • The specific dates on when Club Week is going to be happening are in the works. We are looking at the week before Thanksgiving!
  • Induction
    • We are hoping to have a slideshow playing during Induction, and also the video concerning Richard and PTK.
    • We need to find some more people to help out with this event! If you know anyone, let us know! We could use them!
  • Distribution of Honors in Action Articles
    • Vicky handed out articles to all the officers at the meeting. These articles will help us keep the ball rolling on our research for our Honors in Action Project!
  • Recruiting new members
    • We discussed new ways that we can get people to come to the meetings! Tabling, talking to people in our classes, writing something on Facebook etc.
  • Deciding who presents on Student Success Day
    • Nicolette will be doing a session on SSD in the evening, and Christy will be covering the morning session. The topics of these sessions are still being discussed!
    • SSD is on Tuesday, September 23rd. Don’t forget!

  • Call to Order (3:04 p.m.)
  • Roll Call
  • Regional Update
    • Not much to report. Regional is getting ready for the Fall Conference held at IHCC.
  • T-shirts -> have arrived! If you’re an officer, they are in the PTK Office.
  • Club Fair Tabling
    • PTK tables during Welcome Week, from 11 to 1. Jackson and Christy will be present to answer any questions.
  • College Project Vote
    • Chapter voted on if we want to have a combination of all 3 of the College Project ideas. Voted: doing a combination of all 3.
    • Nicolette will be sending out an invite for Tim and Christina.
  • Fall Conference Food Vote
    • The Chapter discussed what food to order for the upcoming Fall Conference, October 4th & 5th.
    • The Region wanted to keep the meals to about $10 per person. After much discussion and weighing all our options, it was decided that we would have BBQ sandwiches and salad for people that are vegetarians etc. The next day will include a Macaroni & Cheese Bar and, again, salads for vegetarians etc. We are still working out the final details and hope to submit the order soon!
  • Devil’s Lake Conference and Fall Conference
    • Jackson and Christy showed interest in the out of state Conference. More details to follow.
    • The Fall Conference is right around the corner! We have about 4 to 5 people wanting to attend.
    • The chapter is looking for keynote speakers for this event! If you know of anyone, please let us know! We are also looking for a keynote speaker for the Fall Induction in October.
  • Fall Conference Workshops
    • Linda, Amanda and Vicky are doing workshops for the upcoming Fall Conference!
  • Student Success Day
    • SSD is on Tuesday, September 23rd. We will be having two session times, one in the morning and one in the evening! Exact times to follow!
  • Looking Forward
    • The Chapter discussed creating a PTK Promotional Video. This video would let people know about PTK and the Officers could speak about how PTK has impacted them and how people can benefit from joining!
    • Another video that the Chapter wanted to create was for Richard. This video would be played at Induction and would highlight the ways that Richard has impacted all of our lives!

  • Kick-Off
    • Kick Off went really well! Got many people to up for information.
  • HIA and College Project
    • Jackson said he could lead the College Project. He brought up splitting up into “teams” like last year. We have made progress on both projects, but more is to follow!
  • Scrapbook Update
    • The group discussed making a scrapbook, that it would be about half professional, and the other half fun.
  • Upcoming Fall Conference
    • The group went over the schedule and discussed ideas for this Conference. Nicki suggested us to start checking out food and fellowship options now, so we have time to decide.
    • The conference is Friday, October 3rd and Saturday, October 4th. Times and schedule to follow.
    • Richard’s Farewell Dinner is on Friday, September 5th, starting at 6 p.m.
  • Welcome Week and C4 Banner Placement
    • Welcome Week is right around the corner! The group discussed hanging the C4: Commit to Complete Banner up on this week. We also talked about having the Banner available whenever we table in the future.
  • Bios and “Family Tree”
    • Nicolette brought up the idea of having our pictures/bios about each of the officers somewhere, either on campus or on the website.
  • Position Notebooks
    • Each officer is asked to put together a position notebook, displaying what the duties of that officer position are. You can see Nicki, Nicolette, or Christy for an example!
  • Student Success Day
    • SSD is on Tuesday, September 23rd. We will be having two session times, one in the morning and one in the evening! Exact times to follow!
    • Looking Forward
    • The group discussed some future events, including a Research Conference, doing the Polar Plunge, working with Student Senate, and using Google Docs.

Phi Theta Kappa April 30th Meeting Minutes

Meeting Time: 3:06 p.m.- 4:13 p.m. in HH 313

    III.            C4 –Commit to Complete Banner

  • The chapter decided that we are going to be purchasing the C-4 banner and showcase an “event” at the campus. The chapter will be including it when we table at school activities.

    IV.            International Conference Update

  • Vicky won an International Award and was honored at the International Conference.
  • The six students that attended international shared what they enjoyed about the experience with the chapter.

      V.            Co-officer vote

  • The chapter voted to keep Co-Officer Positions.
  • The Chapter has decided that work plans are required now for all future Officers and co-officers. Christy made the motion and Nestor second the motion.

    VI.            Summer Conference

  • The summer conference will take place at Century College Friday, May 30th and Saturday, May 31st. Attending are Brittany, Elena, Debra, Nicolette, Christy, and Jackson

  VII.            Faculty of the Year Winner

  • Pat Lawton! Congratulations!

  • The chapter will use the following :

Co-Officer procedure for the 2014-2015 academic school year

And will be revisited no later than spring 2015

Co-officer Position will only be allowed when:

-Two people have agreed to work as Co-Officers and have created a work plan.

-The Officer already serving the position creates a work plan with their incumbent Co-Officer. This is dependent on a vote by the chapter-excluding the fellowship position.
